SDS won the tender to supply the London MET Police with 11 of the world’s most advanced portable x-ray detection sets for their crack teams…

Details of the tender:
For a number of years Explosive Ordnance Disposal operators have used wet-film X-ray to screen potential threat items. This allows operators to make on-site decisions on the most appropriate course of action to take in each case. As a result of the imminent withdrawal of X-ray film by the sole, world-wide supplier of film of this nature, an urgent operational requirement has to find a suitable replacement for this capability.

This could take the form of either film-based or digital systems that meet the operational requirement. Several portable X-ray systems are currently commercially available, some of which have been designed specifically for EOD operations. Other systems have been designed for dental or veterinary applications that may also provide some level of capability.

This tender is for the supply of eleven man-portable units to replace the entire current X-ray inspection capability. Instruments put forward for this tender should be suitable for EOD inspection applications and their technical efficacy for this role will be assessed and marked against the required and desirable criteria detailed in the technical requirement. This requirement will be provided in the tender package. There may be an option for maintenance.
